El Grito por expatriates is also amazing. I went to the ConsulMex in Houston last night. The celebration culminated with the transmission of Pres. Calderon's Grito.

Two moments are especially emotive for Mexicans living abroad:

1. Listening to the Mariachi sing "Mexico Lindo y Querido" (who can resist to the lyrics:
Let them say I'm asleep
and bring me back to you
my beautiful and beloved Mexico
should I die far from you

all in Spanish, OF COURSE).

2. Watching our President leading the praises to the homeland, plus the national flag, plus the bell tolling.

The experience invariably makes me wonder what am I doing in the US, far from my Mexico.

But then I remember...

Thanks for the post.

Somehow, I have missed being in Mexico for its major holidays -- including Independence Day. We got a head start last night at a party in La Manzanilla. Tonight, our triplet villages will each have a celebration -- including drunken horse races in Villa Obregon. (I believe only the riders will be drunk.) But I intend to enjoy.
